Susan Deixler was a high school student at the Eastern District High School in Brooklyn, New York when she met Barry Manilow.
The high school sweethearts began dating when Susan was a junior and Barry was a senior.
The couple eloped when she was 19 years old in 1964.
In 1966, however, the singer told his wife that he was going on "this wondrous musical adventure" as his career was about to take off.
Afterwards, Susan told him to leave their apartment and filed for an annulment.
In his 1987 autobiography, Barry describes Susan as "the perfect wife."
